Sir Charles Kao UTC specialises in Science engineering and computing. The brief was to deliver a modernised educational brief in a building that reflected business rather than education. We were able to deliver a great solution in combination with Scott Brown Rigg architects.

Working with Red Apple Design on the Sir Charles Kao UTC project in Harlow enabled a highly effective partnership between architect, furniture and equipment. The highly dedicated team, led by your good self not only fully realised the educational vision but moved beyond it. The finished concept is a truly unique organisation where the brand identity and educational vision are wholly apparent. Tottenham UTC

Tottenham UTC was a difficult environment to deliver being built above a supermarket next to the football ground. Nevertheless the building was completed on time. The coordination of efforts between ourselves and Surface To Air Architects created and exciting and dynamic solution. The brief required university standard laboratories and a mechatronics excellence. Working closely with the sponsors, Middlesex University, we created an exemplar Festo mechatronics laboratory.

A combination of networks and communications with programming and software, Reading UTC was one of the earliest UTC's to complete. The design incorporated a combination of refurbishment and new build. The solution needed to be modern yet practical and adaptive.

The Leigh UTC

The Leigh UTC set high expectations for an engineering college above and beyond anything delivered before. The solution included a 10 tonne overhead demag crane, computer aided design solutions alongside practical experiences of working in wood, metal and plastics.

Les Quennevais

Les Quennevais is a dynamic secondary school in the States of Jersey. The emphasis of the brief was to make it as least like a school as possible. The environment of teaching needed to be inspirational and raise students’ aspirations and expectations. The School’s ethos places high expectations of the behaviour of students by treating them as young adults. The School’s relationships with its parents and community are excellent and to be able to provide a community hub is critical to the school.

Red Apple Design has supported us in creating new innovative learning environments that enact our school vision of “Excellence and Enjoyment”.

They embraced our desire to explore new ways of teaching and learning and develop outcomes that were innovative, insightful and practical. From early in the design process they worked with staff and students to ensure the interior layouts and finishes explored and responded to learning led design. This was followed up with a very close working relationship with the Headteacher and Deputy. Karen, Xander and Adam responded positively to the many exacting demands and alterations placed upon them by the school in ensuring the finish would be the best it could possibly be. Red Apple’s in-depth knowledge and experience of school layout and design enabled them to offer solutions and suggest products that others would not be aware of, whilst remaining within the ever-changing budget. Overall, the involvement of Red Apple in the design and completion of the new Les Quennevais School allowed us to draw on their expertise to push the boundaries, create something that meets our brief and that is a beautiful environment for our staff and students to work and learn every day. We wouldn’t have wanted to do it without them!
