PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Pupil referral unit in Brixton for 11-18 year olds. Most students were virtually homeless or ‘sofa surfing’. Behavioural issues masked a complex needs requirement of disability, complex learning needs and pastoral support. The school encouraged a cooperative design process, ie we brought ideas as did they covering a number of key areas.

THE RAD SCOPE & BRIEF:

To deliver a school that manages severe behavioural issues and yet still offer the widest possible curriculum safely. We delivered the designs, the procurement and fit out.

OUR SOLUTION:

We created an award winning solution with a product selection that allowed for robustness but still offered a soft and inclusive aesthetic.

HOW WE MADE A DIFFERENCE:

• Helped develop the technology curriculum potential beyond the school’s
  expectations, creating a centre of excellence for behavioural needs.
• Brought our knowledge of equipment, safe working zones and supply chain
  expertise to create the maximum space utilisation with the best solution for the budget.
• Delivered workable ideas on space zoning that enabled the school to exceed all expectations.
• Created a safe environment for both students and staff
• Considered how to deal with a range of behavioural symptoms including the need for life skills, being able to socialise in a normal family environment, eating at a table, daily food needs, pastoral support
• Detailed the start and end of day sequence avoiding bottlenecks to get students to where they needed to be quickly
• Considered out of hours needs and support for students in difficult or non existent family environments
• Detailed a parenting suite where parents / guardians could be supported in how they interact with their wards.
