CLIENT: Wates Construction
TOTAL PROJECT VALUE: £13.2m (FF&E element £304K)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A through school for SEN students ages 3 to 19. The SEN nature covers complex learning and development needs. It includes a hydrotherapy pool and specialist art, science, food tech and life skills classes.

THE RAD SCOPE & BRIEF:

To design and coordinate the furniture and equipment. The spaces needed to manage all levels of abilities across the building in a properly integrated fashion.

OUR SOLUTION:

This followed a typical build process. Of particular note here was the need to provide wheelchair recharging spaces for students who transferred from an outdoor chair to an indoor chair etc. Classroom storage was key and was maximised through a fitted solution in each space. Height adjustability for students and teachers was very important to create a completely inclusive environment.

HOW WE MADE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Assisted in defining and delivering the sensory brief.
  • Brought our knowledge of lifting equipment and the safe transfer of students from A to B to C.
  • Created a safe but inspiring environment
  • Advised on safety aspects of furniture and equipment in a difficult behavioural environment
  • Provided 3D walkthroughs that all parties could simply review in their own
    workplace
