PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A combined main secondary school and SEN school for students ages 12 to 16 The SEN nature covers complex learning and development needs. The secondary school is a free school. This was the first combined SEN and free school.

THE RAD SCOPE & BRIEF:

To design and coordinate the furniture and equipment.The design needed to manage the boundaries between the two schools such that students and staff could cross the boundary when it suited their skill requirements. This project included the use of legacy furniture and equipment.

OUR SOLUTION:

The Head teacher wanted to ensure a main stream look and feel across the building. The idea being to maximise the specialsims in each part to each student’s best needs. As well as to incorporate speciasl needs within mainstream education as best as possible.

HOW WE MADE A DIFFERENCE:

• Enabled shared specialist spaces to reduce duplication
• Brought our knowledge of lifting equipment and the safe transfer of students from A to B to C.
• Created a safe but inspiring environment
• Incorporated student opinions on design and colour
• Advised on safety aspects of furniture and equipment in a difficult behavioural environment
• Provided 3D walkthroughs that all parties could simply review in their own workplace
